Media Begins its Subtle Breakdown of Chris Christie

Are they serious? It seems now that every time our Governor sneezes or does anything of negligible consequence, the national media is now there to scoop up the story and blast it through the channels. It is clear that the Associated Press and other outlets are looking to pull a Sarah Palin on Chris Christie. By that I mean they see him as a the rising conservative star that he is, and seek to squash him in the eyes of the public before he can do any real damage on his own. Luckily for us, our Governor won’t back out of his job and start a PAC to nominate a slew of unelectable candidates as a result.

This time the press has seized on a statement made by Governor Christie about the obvious doubts presented by global warming theories that a majority of the nation actually seems to hold. The statement? Merely that Governor Christie has seen the evidence presented from both sides of the highly politicized and often scandalous issue, and that he does not think that the argument for man made global warming has been proved one way or the other. It’s certainly a nuanced position, and one that some in the GOP would scoff at, but honestly, its incredibly rational. It’s not principled to simply take a stance on an issue that isn’t one of moral conviction without having enough evidence to make an informed decision. Not principled, just stupid.

Because Christie is Governor of New Jersey, the media is billing this as a recognition of his new status in the GOP and a repositioning to align himself with the trends of conservatism in the United States. What? Are they kidding? Is this not the same Governor who we all know to speak his mind and not really care who listens or what they think about it? The Governor who does basically what he feels is right and gets it by even with an incompetent and uncooperative Democrat legislature? If there is one thing that no journalist should ever accuse our Governor of, its pandering. It’s not in his nature.

The Associated Press and friends need to realize that Chris Christie is no Sarah Palin. Trying to direct a narrative over a person as imposing and blunt as the New Jersey Governor will not be an easy task. Palin was a push over, her strange accent and Bidenesque gaffs made her a logical successor to George W. Bush as the media’s new favorite “idiot.” They got a lot of practice in 2008 and 2009 on how to break a politician down and rebuild them in an image more suitable to liberal audiences who’s numbers dwindle by the day. To the press I simply say, good luck, this one wont be so easy.

  1. "A slew of unelectable candidates"

Rand Paul, Kelly Ayotte, Nikki Haley, Tim Scott, Allen West, Susana Martinez, Mary Fallin, Michael Grimm, Rick Scott, Rick Perry, Renee Ellmers, Steve Southerland, Sean Duffy, Adam Kinzinger, Rick Berg, Pam Bondi, Martha Roby, Dan Benishek and Paul Gosar among others were unelectable? Really?

I guess only the ones who lost count towards her. By such standards, Christie didn't do such a great job because Meg Whitman and Mike Castle lost. By the way, Castle still would have lost to Coons being the RINO he is.

  2. Brian do you really have to denigrate Sarah Palin to make your point that the media wants to destroy Chris Christie? You try to paint it as Palin was somehow unsuccessful in her endorsement strategy but fail to mention she was successful with over 50% of her endorsements and was absolutely pivotal in South Carolina where Nikki Haley was elected. And no, she did not endorse Sharron Angle. You can make the analogy to what the media has done to Palin with what they are trying to do with Palin, but that does not mean you have to throw her under the bus at the same time. Also, saying she is a push over is simply naive and foolish, she has been written off for dead 100 times already and she is still front and center and in fact probably the front runner for the GOP nomination for 2012, like it or not. Not sure if she is my pick but I am realistic enough to know if she runs she can win the nomination.

  4. Danno, I've visited this site many times before and after Palin left office (due to the frivolous lawsuits that AK taxpayers were having to foot the bill for), I saw many of the columnists trash her and even the Tea Party movement itself.

What Brian says seems to be typical of most East Coast GOP types. They still believe in the need for moderate Republicans, which may work for their states. Rockefeller Republicanism doesn't fly in the south, most of the midwest, the mountain states and the southwest.

Chris Christie may be a proven tax fighter, but moderates like Castle and Hatch are not. The latter two and their ilk cannot be trusted by the newer generation of the GOP because they identify themselves by party, but not any principles.
