Tone Deaf Gloucester Dems Elevate Loser Who Attacked Cancer Victims’ Families to Freeholder Board

The wordy albeit entirely accurate title of this post sums it up, Save Jerseyans.

Heather Simmons, the Norcross Democrat who lost to Republican challengers Larry Wallace and Vince Nestore in November’s freeholder election, was selected on Friday to replace the departing Steve Sweeney on the Gloucester county board. So much for the will of the people!

Simmons had a chance to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in the fall contest despite the national GOP wave. Gloucester Dems have substantial voter registration and campaign funding advantages working in their favor. But Simmons didn’t pull it off, due in large part to “her ticket’s decision” (i.e. the machine’s foolish decision) to attack Wallace and Nestore over state funding for cancer detection. The cancer charge was ridiculous enough notwithstanding the crucial point that Larry and Vince had both lost family members to cancer. Oops!

Blue Jersey’s Jay Lassiter said it best: the sudden onset of acute tone deafness in South Jersey Democrat circles will be their undoing. Not that I’m complaining. Simmons is probably working on her next campaign mailer attacking AIDS victims and stroke patients as we speak! It’s a sure strategy for future perpetual Democrat minorities in Gloucester and beyond.
