NJ GOP Out-Raise Dems Big Time in 2011

The first quarter of fundraising has ended for the Democrats and Republicans in New Jersey. Each side has three organizations that make up their fundraising apparatus across the state. A state committee, an assembly committee and a senate committee. So far this year the GOP has surpassed the Democrats in all three committees and maintain a huge cash on hand advantage with only six months to go in the 2011 election cycle.

Lets break it down. The Democrats took in a combined total of $656,651 so far this year and now have $770,000 cash on hand. In contrast, the GOP raised $1,081,588 and have more than $1,700,000 cash on hand. So not only did the Republicans manage to bring in nearly twice the amount of money, but they also are so on top of their debt and spending obligations that they have almost $1 million more in the bank. Sounds a lot like how it would work if the GOP ran the state government!

This is a big swing from the last analogous election year, 2007, when Republicans took in less than $300,000 in the same time period, while the Democrats managed to take in $1.3 million. Those days are clearly long gone. If the GOP can maintain this momentum over the next five months there could be some surprises, even with the new legislative map. Whatever Chairman Raia is doing over at the state committee (he took in more money this quarter than all three Democrat organizations combined!) someone should tell him to keep doing it.
