Galloway School District Caps Homework, Wants Kids Brains to Rot

And we wonder why our public schools continue to slide downhill when compared to our global competitors. While in other nations students are going to school more and more, students in Galloway are now guaranteed to have no homework on weekends, and are limited to weeknight homework of ten minutes multiplied by what grade they are in.

The reason? Clearly because Galloway School District is being run by a bunch of incompetent individuals. The excuse? Because the district claims that this will give students more time to spend doing other things, such as sitting in front of the television, playing video games, and cultivating a greater sense of entitlement.

The district also claims that this will create an opportunity for more family time. I don’t know about you, Save Jerseyans, but when I was in grade school (which admittedly was not that long ago, it was the mid-1990s), family time likely consisted of doing homework together with your parents. But I suppose nothing encourages parents to be involved in a child’s education like removing any opportunity to do so!

Work is done when it is done. Lessons are learned when they are learned. How will the adults of our future learn the basics they need if their developmental years are restricted by arbitrary time deadlines in the name of doing “other activities?”
