Good news today from across the Delaware River, Save Jerseyans.
Pennsylvania Judge Robert E. Simpson issued a 70-page decision denying an application for an injunction against Pennsylvania’s voter ID law. The key part of his ruling? Judge Simpson declared that the ACLU-led petitioners had failed to establish that “disenfranchisement [of PA voters] was immediate or inevitable.”
Duh! Minority turnout INCREASED in Georgia after their voter ID measure went into effect.
Now roughly 8.2 million registered voters in the Keystone State will be required to present state-approved photo identification at this November’s polling stations. It’s a beautiful thing, a logical move and, most importantly, it’s good for the health of our democracy. And everyone I’ve talked to says they expect the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to agree with Judge Simpson on appeal (if that happens).
The next move is yours, Trenton…
Regular Save Jersey readers know that I’ve argued for a similar law here in the Garden State. In fact, two companion pieces of legislation continue to languish in the Democrat legislature. You can click here to visit our extensive “voter ID” archives, check out my own proposal (based on the PA law) and get caught up to speed. Then click here to find your legislators’ contact information and DEMAND action on a New Jersey voter ID law!
The state to allow people time to get this id. All laws passed take a year or two to go into effect.
