Rible: Protect Gun Owner Privacy

David Rible

By Matt Rooney | The Save Jersey Blog

rible_colorAssembly GOP Conference Leader and former police officer Dave Rible (R-Monmouth) is moving to protect the privacy of New Jersey gun owners:

Making this information available in the newspaper essentially provides a blueprint for criminals looking for guns. Information on who possesses a gun should be available only to law enforcement and not to every criminal who picks up a newspaper.”

Rible’s proposal is a direct response to the recent high-profile case involving a New York newspaper that published the addresses of registered Westchester and Rockland county gun owners.

He plans to introduce legislation this month which, if enacted, would shield gun permit information from everyone save law enforcement officials. You’ll be able to find it here when it’s public.

  1. Here's a crazy thought – eliminate the ridiculous pistol permit process altogether. The outdated NJ background check system for firearms ID cards is more than extensive enough already, and there is no legitimate public need to track legally purchased guns based on the length of their barrels.

  2. @Jim What do you expect from a culture that won't protect schools by arming staff/guards/police, but is determined to provide kids with free condom dispensers in their bathrooms. It's a mess with predictable results.
