#TragedyPorn: Zimmerman Not Guilty

By Matt Rooney | The Save Jersey Blog

JusticeGeorge Zimmerman has been found not guilty on all counts, Save Jerseyans, and I’m proud to say that your Blogger-in-Chief didn’t watch a single minute of the court TV coverage. The Newsroom writers refer to it as “tragedy porn.”

I agree with their assessment.

The only silver lining? A jury of six average Americans apparently set aside emotion, media pressure, and the unbelievable interference of Barack Obama’s Justice Department to determine that the state hadn’t met its awesome burden. That’s a beautiful uniquely American thing; it’s one one of those moments which set us apart from the rest of Planet Earth’s rabble. We’re still a nation of laws, not politically correct presumptions or partisan lynch mobs. At least not yet. And that fact is more important than the actual verdict for everyone except Mr. Zimmerman.

The real crisis after Zimmerman’s not guilty verdict: what’s a ratings ghoul like Nancy Grace supposed to do with her life starting tomorrow morning? I guess keep her fingers crossed that a Hollywood celebrity and/or attractive parent of six decides to commit a felony within the next 24 hours.

But since I didn’t indulge a single second of Nancy Grace’s ghoulish commentary this time around, I’m ill-quipped to comment any further particularly regarding the verdict’s substance.

What are your post-verdict thoughts, Save Jerseyans? Let’s hear from you…

  1. @Barbara The jury charge defined manslaughter as an act "that was not merely negligent, justified or excusable and which caused death." I didn´t watch any of the trial, but whether it "could have been avoided" isn´t the applicable standard.

  2. This case never merited the media frenzy that it caused. It is a tragedy that a child was killed but Angela Corey pushed for a case that was not from the get go a 2nd deg. case.

  3. The Not Guilty Verdict was and is Justice Served. This is truly wonderful, especially since it was served in the face of all odds against it. The Left, the Race Hustlers and the Main Stream Media had a vested interest in a getting a guilty verdict to further their political agenda. Happily they failed. 🙂

  4. The burden of proof was on the shoulders of the prosecution. Justice prevailed with the not guilty verdict.

Unfortunately, there are many who rather be driven by emotion rather than educated by fact. People who are against carrying firearms for self defense and private gun ownership will attempt to use this as a battle cry for more gun control.

  5. Just like with Casey Anthony, if the prosecution produces absolutely NONE, ZERO, ZILTCH, NADA, NO evidence to prove the alleged crime. The judge and (or) jury has no choice but to acquit. Also, just like with Casey Anthony. The prosecutors had no evidence because quite simply, no crime was committed. And Just like with Casey Anthony, George Zimmerman….. An innocent person walks free. God bless the United States judicial system!!

  6. Zimmerman should have listened to the 9/11 dispatcher and stayed in his car and not pursued someone he wrongly defined as a "suspect". It is unfortunate tough guy Zimmerman in his vigilante pursuit couldn´t be a man and rely on a fist fight and his supposed martial arts training and had to blow the kid away. I guess all the defenders think it´s alright to play cowboy with a gun in the hands of someone who doesn´t listen to instructions from authorities.
