Before he joined the New Jersey State Legislature, Assemblyman David Rible (R-30) served the Wall Township Police Department as a patrolman, hostage negotiator, crime prevention officer and forensic specialist.

In Rible’s expert opinion, the blame for Thursday’s murder of five Dallas, Texas police officers belongs to those who seek to judge police incidents before all of the facts come to light:

I am terribly saddened to learn about this tragic attack on these police officers who were targeted simply because they were cops. My thoughts and prayers go out to the law enforcement family as well as the family and friends of these officers who were the victims of this callous act.

While I am heartbroken for these officers and their families, I am not surprised that police officers were targeted. In recent years, the rush to judge the actions of police has made it increasingly difficult and downright dangerous for cops to do their jobs.

I have said repeatedly that a police officer wants simply to do their job and return home safely to their family at the end of their shift. Unfortunately, the tragedy that occurred in Dallas illustrates the dangers facing members of the law enforcement community each and every day.

It goes without saying that whoever committed this appalling crime should face swift and severe penalties for their actions.

I am hopeful that this tragedy will demonstrate that now, more than ever, we need to stand with our dedicated police officers who perform an important and difficult job in an increasingly dangerous world.”
