The 2016 Republican National Convention is only a few days away, Save Jerseyans, and we want you to be in the know when it comes to the process and who is representing the great state of New Jersey.
Here’s a summary of some of the fine points:
(1) Republicans will send 2,472 delegates to Cleveland next week. 80.4% of primary voters in New Jersey voted for Donald Trump which earned him 51 delegates in our de facto winner-take-all contest.

(2) According to the rules, the plurality winner of the statewide primary vote receives all of the state’s district and at-large delegates. New Jersey delegates are bound by state party rules to support Donald Trump at the convention:
All delegates … committed to a particular candidates … shall be obligated and required to cast their vote for the candidates at the first vote … at the Republican National Convention. In the event any candidates … declines to participate … or makes known publically that he/she no longer seeks the nomination … New Jersey’s delegates … shall no longer be … committed to any candidate. … Any delegates … who fails or refused to act in accordance with their … commitment … shall to subject to censure ….” [Rules 6 and 7]
(3) 36 of New Jersey’s 51 delegates are district-level delegates (this contingent accounts for 3 delegates to represent each of the states 12 congressional districts). 12 will be counted as at-large delegates and the remaining 3 are Republican National Committee Members (via the 2016 RNC Presidential Nominating Process).
(4) Each state selects one male and one female delegate to sit on the RNC Rules Committee. The committee is responsible for producing the rules that will govern the convention. The Rules Committee members from New Jersey are Chris Christie allies Bill Palatucci and Christine Serrano-Glassner.
(5) There are 11 women serving as delegates including: Christina M. Ramirez, Christine Serrano-Glassner, Ginny Haines, Irene Kim Asbury, Jill M. Space, Kelly Yaede, Lucille Panos, M. Claire French, Maria Di Giovanni, Mary D. O’Brien, Nadine Ciparis.
(6) There are 11 Republican county chairs on the delegate list including: Keith Davis (Atlantic County), William Layton (Burlington County), Michael Testa Cumberland County), Lisa Richford (Mercer Count), Sam Thompson (Middlesex County), John Sette (Morris County), George Gilmore (Ocean County), John Traier (Passaic County), Al Gaburo (Somerset County), Jerry Scanlan (Sussex County) and Glenn Mortimer (Union County).
(7) There are plenty of familiar NJ GOP names from the Governor’s orbit including Donald DiFrancesco, Richard Bagger, Jon Hanson (the Morris County developer tasked with helping Christie fix the Meadowlands), Robert J. Hugin (a biopharmaceutical executive), and Francis X. Wentworth (managing principal at Normandy Real Estate Partners). The Governor’s son, Andrew, is also a delegate, as are South-Central Jersey GOP titans Glenn Paulsen of Burlington County and George Gilmore of Ocean County.
