Christie’s approval rating tanks to 21%; more than half of N.J. Republicans disapprove

christie town hall bordentownAfter having spiked up into the rarefied 60-to-70% range in the immediate aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, Governor Chris Christie is now living in the polling basement.

A new Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind poll out Wednesday finds only 21% of New Jerseyans approving of their Governor’s job approval; he was at 26% back in July.

It’s not just Democrats and independents who hate the former presidential hopeful; 52% of his fellow Republicans disapprove, too.

“Apparently we’ve not yet found the floor for the governor’s approval among voters in the state. The recent gas tax increase that the governor supported no doubt caused some in his party to turn against him, even though he sought to reduce taxes in other areas in order to offset the increase at the pump,” opined Krista Jenkins, professor of political science and director of PublicMind.
