MacArthur Praises Trump’s Planned Military Buildup

President Donald Trump called for a $54 billion increase in federal military spending in Tuesday’s State of the Union-like address, Save Jerseyans, and one of New Jersey’s Congressman is happy for it.

“I’m glad the President is committed to restoring defense spending, but I think a larger investment is needed to ensure proper training and readiness of our troops around the world, while also supporting critical facilities like Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst,” explained Tom MacArthur (R, NJ-03). “And as a Congressman who represents tens of thousands of veterans, I agree with the President that we must make sure our veterans have access to the care they deserve.”

Trump specifically pledged to end and rollback the Obama-era defense “sequester” that critics have faulted for damaging the U.S. military’s readiness.

MacArthur presently serves on the House Armed Services Committee and as Vice Chairman of it Subcommittee on Military Personnel.

He recently led the successful fight to keep his district’s Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst open well into the future by securing the placement of the KC-46 refueling tanker on the base.
