POLL: Murphy Leads for the General, Piscopo 2nd in Primary, Christie (Still) in the Basement

There isn’t much new in the Quinnipiac New Jersey Election 2017 poll results released Wednesday, Save Jerseyans:

  • Democrat Phil Murphy leads Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno by a solid double-digit margin
  • SNL Comedian Joe Piscopo is in 2nd place in the GOP primary (despite having not announced a campaign)
  • Chris Christie‘s approval rating is (still) in the teens despite an expensive drug rehabilitation PR campaign

The challenge for Guadagno (the only Republican besides Piscopo to register significant support)? She trails Murphy considerably among women and appears to be poised to start the general election cycle in a bit of a hole.

“The leading candidates – Republican Kim Guadagno and Democrat Phil Murphy – are little known, despite her years as lieutenant governor and the huge amount of money he already has spent,” said Maurice Carroll, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll. “Will that change if they win the nominations? Sure, but it’s hardly an auspicious start.”
