Christie Deploys N.J. Task Force to Hurricane-Ravaged Texas

On Sunday night, Governor Chris Christie announced that he is sending NJ Task Force 1 to Texas to assist with Hurricane Harvey rescue and recovery efforts.

“As Americans, we come together during times of crisis and today New Jersey’s heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the people of Texas at this very difficult time,” said Governor Christie in a statement. “During Superstorm Sandy, emergency and law enforcement response contingents from around the country came to our aid.  New Jersey stands ready to assist Texas with their search and rescue response to the destruction and devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey and the recovery process begins.”

New Jersey’s Urban Search and Rescue is overseen by the New Jersey State Police and the Office of Emergency Management. The N.J. task force is scheduled to arrive in Katy, Texas on Monday since the roads to-and-from San Antonio have reportedly become impassable.

This take force’s most recent deployment was back in 2016 to North Carolina for Hurricane Matthew relief efforts.
