MacArthur skips Trump tax celebration presser to call constituents, sell legislation

Tom MacArthur

Congressman Tom MacArthur (R, NJ-03) didn’t waste time on a victory lap following Wednesday’s historic passage of the first federal tax reform legislation in three decades.

He skipped the big White House press conference/photo op with President Trump.

Instead, the two-term legislator spent his afternoon working the telephone, calling his NJ-03 constituents to discuss tax reform legislation.

“This legislation will provide real relief for a vast majority of my constituents in South Jersey and I’m grateful the President will soon sign it into law,” said MacArthur. “I’m spending the afternoon calling constituents to discuss how this bill will provide them with a much needed tax cut—by lowering rates, doubling the standard deduction and child tax credit, providing tax credits for childcare and care of adult dependents; all while preserving the deductibility of property and state income taxes.”

MacArthur was the only one of New Jersey’s fourteen federal legislators to support the sweeping bill which lowers individual rates, slashes corporate taxes, and doubles the standard deduction among other reforms.

Over 50% of NJ-03 constituents utilize the standard deduction.
