NEWARK, NJ — Better? Maybe, but still pretty bad.
The real estate analytics company NeighborhoodScout has released a list of the 30 U.S. cities with a dubious distinction: the most murders per 1,000 residents.
Camden ranks #3; Newark is #15.
The notoriously crime-ridden New Jersey urban centers did see some improvement in 2017, with Newark experiencing an overall drop in crime and Camden seeing a decades-low murder rate.
According to NeighborhoodScout’s website, the organization analyzed “cities with 25,000 or more people,” and “[d]ata used for this research are 1) the number of murders reported to the FBI to have occurred in each city, and 2) the population of each city.”
