South Jersey will be pulling hard for the Philadelphia Eagles in this upcoming Sunday’s Super Bowl LII match up against the New England Patriots in Minnesota. As it turns out, they won’t be alone.
“When asked who they are rooting for in this year’s Super Bowl, 37% of Americans say they’re backing the Eagles compared to just 16% who are with the Patriots. When asked if they are rooting against either team, 39% say they want New England to lose and just 12% want to see Philadelphia go 0-for-3 in Super Bowl appearances,” reported the Monmouth University Poll on Thursday.
Approximately two-thirds of those polled said they’d be watching the big game or at least pay some attention; interest is obviously higher among northeastern residents where 77% said they’d at least have it on their televisions, as background noise, even if they’re not intently watching every play.
Professionals odds makers favored the Patriots but sport betting fans are reportedly leaning in the direction of the underdog Eagles who’ve won over analysts this season with their physical game performances.
Meanwhile, the infamously-tenacious Patriots led by future hall of fame quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick are gunning for their sixth Lombardi Trophy since 2001.
