NJ-02: Singh posts $100k+ while GOP opponents remain quiet on fundraising front

Hirsh Singh

Hirsh Singh is the Republican candidate with the strongest war chest in NJ-02, boasting just over $109,000 in receipts as of the end of the 1st Quarter according to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) website as of Tuesday afternoon, Save Jerseyans; the Indian American millennial businessman had $82,554.98 cash on hand.

$45,000 of his receipts came from loans; the campaign raised $64,347.

In fact, he may be the only Republican candidate with a war chest.

Engineer Fitzherbert — who is no longer on the ballot after losing a petition battle — raised $14,743.44 and burned through around $10,000.00.

An FEC website search for Singh’s three remaining GOP primary opponents on the June ballot — former Assemblyman Sam Fiocchi, attorney and activist Seth Grossman, and former FBI Agent Robert Turkavage — turned up a ‘no data available’ messages, possibly indicating that they’ve raised under the $5,000.00 reporting threshold at which point federal candidates are required to file a “Statement of Candidacy.’

Singh can likely dip deeper if the need arises.

In his 2017 primary campaign for governor? Singh’s father loaned approximately $1 million to his son’s campaign.

Meanwhile, presumptive Democrat nominee Jeff Van Drew, a machine favorite and incumbent state senator, is still solidly out in front having posted receipts totaling $488,845.96 and $456,028.25 cash on hand.

Correction: An earlier version of this post reported Hirsh Singh had raised $45,000 and received $64,347 in loans when, in fact, those numbers are reversed (see above).
