NJ-02: Former GOP rival DeWeese to host fundraiser for Democrat Van Drew

DeWeese

WILDWOOD, N.J. — Dave DeWeese came as close as anyone ever has to dethroning state Senator Jeff Van Drew during the 2011 legislative election cycle, falling under 4,000 votes shy over winning out of over 45,000 votes cast.

Flash forward seven years:

DeWeese, the former LD1 Republican nominee, is not only endorsing his ex-rival Van Drew, a Democrat, in his quest to succeed the retiring Frank LoBiondo, but he’s actually hosting a fundraiser for his former general election rival at the Mudhen Brewing Company in DeWeese’s own home base of Wildwood.

The $1,000 per guest reception is scheduled for July 9th.

This year’s Republican candidate for New Jersey’s Second Congressional District — Seth Grossman — upset a weak field to capture the party’s nomination in early June and has since come under fire from the media for his politically incorrect pronouncements, e.g. proclaiming “diversity is a bunch of crap and un-American.”

DeWeese is an attorney who serves as fund solicitor for three municipal joint insurance funds encompassing 104 South Jersey municipalities.
