Webber: Mollie Tibbetts died “because we don’t control our borders”

MORRIS PLAINS, N.J. — Immigration is back at the center of this year’s midterm debates notwithstanding the ongoing turmoil in the White House.

This week, NJ-11 GOP candidate Jay Webber responded to the nationally-reported death of Iowa’s Mollie Tibbetts, allegedly at the hands of an illegal alien, by repudiating the Left’s ongoing push for sanctuary statehood and open borders.

“This heinous act was committed by an illegal alien. Enough is enough. We must say without reservation – no sanctuary cities. No open borders. No to those who seek to abolish ICE. No more half-measures or unclear positions on these critical issues. We must reform this broken system now, so that we don’t have to spend evenings like this one praying for families who have lost loved ones because we don’t control our borders,” said Webber.

New Jersey hasn’t been immune to the crisis. ICE has conducted raids and investigations in recent months throughout the state. However, on Tuesday, a man who reportedly overstayed his visa allegedly murdered another man and attempted to kill his ex-girlfriend in Long Branch.

Webber had previously challenged his Democrat opponent Mikie Sherrill to a debate on the fate of ICE, the federal law enforcement agency under attack by Leftists. A newly-released U.S. Senate race poll found 14% of New Jerseyans surveyed citing immigration as the most important issue towards making a decision in that race, behind health care, ethics, and taxes.

Webber and Sherrill are competing to succeed the retiring Rodney Frelinghuysen.
