Republicans are out of power in Burlington County for the first time since 1975.

Assemblyman Joe Howarth (R-8), a veteran educator and former freeholder, says rumors that he’s considering an early exit in light of the GOP’s troubles are baseless.

“They’ll have to carry me out feet first,” Howarth told Save Jersey over the phone on Thursday night. “I’ve got too much left to accomplish.”

Howarth and his district mate, Ryan Peters (R-8), are considered top targets for Assembly Democrats in 2019.

Burlington-centric LD8 encompasses the municipalities of Eastampton Township, Evesham Township (where the GOP took a beating this cycle), Hainesport Township, Lumberton Township, Mansfield Township, Medford Township, Medford Lakes Borough, Mount Holly Township, Pemberton Borough, Pemberton Township, Shamong Township, Southampton Township, Springfield Township, Westampton Township and Woodland Township.

It also includes the Atlantic County municipality of Hammonton and the Camden County municipalities of Berlin Borough, Pine Hill Borough, Pine Valley Borough and Waterford Township.
