Rep. Chris Smith (R, NJ-04) joined 34 House Republicans on Wednesday voting in favor of a commission to purportedly probe the January 6th riot on Capitol Hill. Whether any real investigating will go down or it quickly devolves into a partisan show remains to be confirmed, Save Jerseyans.
New Jersey’s only other Republican in Congress – Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R, NJ-02) – voted no.

The measure passed the narrowly-Democrat U.S. House in a 252-175 vote.
“Homeland Security ranking member John Katco was empowered by the House GOP leadership to negotiate bill text with the chair of the committee. I believe he did an amazing job,” said Smith. “The original highly partisan commission proposal–7 Democrats to 4 Republicans with sweeping unilateral subpoena powers–was replaced with a 10 member commission equally divided between Democrats and Republicans who can only issue subpoenas when agreed to by both the Chair and Vice-chair or a majority of Commission members. Any report including the final report MUST be agreed to by a vote of a majority of Commission member.”
