N.J. taxpayers spending $30k per pupil for an average SAT score of 799

Governor Murphy’s budget plan includes $650 million more for school aid, Save Jerseyans, although the formula remains highly controversial.

The state’s most troubled school district – Camden – would get a 4.2% bump from $299,506,085 for the 2021-2022 school year to $312,103,851 for the 2022-2023 year. It would bring the total increase for Camden during Murphy’s tenure in office to over 11%.

What are the children of Camden and the taxpayers of New Jersey getting for this massive investment?

Well, here are the recently-released statewide average SAT scores broken down by district.

Camden’s average score is 799.

The national average in 2021 was 1051. In New Jersey it’s 1,110.

I’ve been trying to advance this argument for as long as there’s been a Save Jersey: more money doesn’t equal quality and that’s especially true in places like Camden where the institutionally-corrupt public school monopoly continues to fail our most vulnerable children.
