Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R, NJ-02) was one of 398 members of Congress sanctioned by Russia on Wednesday.
The two-term South Jersey congressman took the news in stride.
“If Vladimir Putin thinks that placing sanctions on me and other members of Congress will affect our continued efforts to support Ukraine and weaken Russia, he is sorely mistaken,” said Congressman Van Drew in a statement obtained by Save Jersey. “He will not intimidate me, nor our great nation, and I am honored to have been personally targeted by Putin. I will always stand up for freedom and democracy, which will prevail in the end.”
The sanctions include a travel ban (though it’s unlikely Van Drew or any other sane person regrets missing out on visiting Russia).
Putin’s regime is retaliating against the U.S. after the Biden Administration sanctioned 300+ Russian lawmakers in March.
