In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s blockbuster Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade and returning control of abortion law to the states, 2022 campaigns are already wading into the fray to steer the narrative.
In NJ-03, Republican nominee Bob Healey made it clear that incumbent Democrat Andy Kim and his close ally Phil Murphy are the real extremists in this debate.
“The only person in this race with extreme views on abortion is Congressman Andy Kim, who sides with Governor Murphy and other radicals in his party who believe in expanded access to late-term abortions, long after a baby is viable and could live a healthy life outside the womb, and that 15-year-old girls seeking an abortion should not have to notify their parents first,” said Healey in a statement. “Those are extreme positions and Andy Kim should have to explain why he holds them.”
New Jersey acted pre-Dobbs to codify Roe v. Wade in state law meaning today’s decision will have little immediate impact on Garden State abortion access.
NJ-03 is considered highly competitive this cycle after Phil Murphy only carried the district by a single point last fall.
