New Jersey legislative Democrats are as obsessed with Donald Trump as their comrades in other state, Save Jerseyans. So instead of advancing legislation to cut property taxes or reform the pension system (something important!), a Senate Committee advanced S-3032 at the end of last week. The bill “[p]rohibits professional sports organizations operated utilizing funds primarily received from sovereign wealth funds from hosting sport or athletic events in this State.”
“Under the bill, the State, a county, a municipality, or any political subdivision of the State would be prohibited from issuing any permit or license in conjunction with such an event and would be required to suspend for a period of at least 30 days but not more than 120 days any operating permit or license held by the host or owner of any property where such an event is held,” the bill’s statement explains.”
The target for this special legislation is painfully obvious: the 2022 LIV Golf Invitational hosted at President Trump’s famous Bedminster golf club over the summer.
“Glad to see my bill to ban from NJ the Saudi-sponsored LIV golf tournament passed out of committee and is ready for a vote by the full Senate,” tweeted State Senator Andrew Wicker on Monday, not even pretending that the legislation isn’t designed to target a single entity – and former president.
