Pascrell repeats popular lie about Biden’s jobs record

Democrats will officially lose control of the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday, Save Jerseyans, and the ougoing majority parity is working overboard to put lipstick on the pig that is their dismal legislative legacy.

Case in point: North Jersey’s Bill Pascrell is recycling a well-worn lie concerning how Joe Biden’s jobs record stacks up against those of his predecessors…

Misleading? You bet, and for a host of reasons.

Unfortunately for Biden (and Congressman Pascrell), even The Washington Post‘s chief “fact checker” Glenn Kessler felt the need to correct the White House when it amplified a similar version of the lie last January:

“A huge problem with this apples-and-oranges chart: It compares monthly job growth of 4- and 8-year terms with just one year of Biden,” Kessler explained. “Trump used to do the same thing — until his record was spoiled by the job losses in his last year. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.”

Trump’s last year, of course, was the Covid-19 year (2020) when state lockdowns devastated the economy and sent millions of Americans to the unemployment office. Biden’s job growth is largely job replacement. It’s jobs destroyed by Whitmer/Murphy/Cuomo/Newsom, etc., during the worst days of the pandemic being replaced by new ones or former positions that were later reinstated as restrictions eased and the economy stabilized.

Pascrell isn’t famous for being anything other than a hyper-partisan hack, so this tweet is consistent if nothing else. Just be sure you’re prepared to call it out for what it is if you see a gullible friend sharing it.
