Another dead whale spotted floating off of N.J. coastline

It’s happened again, Save Jerseyans.

On Monday, federal officials confirmed that a humpback whale carcass was floating approximately 4 to 5 miles south of the Ambrose Channel, the primary shipping channel for the Port of New York and New Jersey.

This is the 13th dead or stranded whale along just the New Jersey-New York coastline over the past three months.

Congressman Jeff Van Drew (R, NJ-02) will host a hearing on offshore wind and its impact on marine life next month in South Jersey.

“The unknown impacts of these offshore wind projects raises serious concerns, especially after 18 whales have washed ashore near where surveying is taking place, six of which have been in New Jersey,” said Van Drew in a statement. “These projects will have substantial impacts on the local tourism industry, the fishing industry, and the surrounding environment. As Vice Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I am holding these hearings in order to discover what exactly these impacts will be and to determine what additional pieces of legislation will be adequate to address the issue.”
