AFP, Jersey 1st will join forces in New Jersey

A major national organization and a fast-rising New Jersey advocacy group are formally teaming up.

On Tuesday, Americans for Prosperity and Jersey 1st announced the launch of a joint partnership; according to a joint release, “the organizations plan to work with lawmakers, political leaders, and community leaders to promote policies in the best interest of the people of New Jersey” as well as “host community groups and other events to raise awareness on the importance of economic freedom and the impact of overbearing government regulations.”

“We are proud to partner with Jersey 1st, an organization that shares our goal of promoting freedom and prosperity for all,” said AFP Northeast Director Ross Connolly. “This partnership is an opportunity to capitalize on our resources and advance policies that put hardworking New Jersey families and businesses first. AFP is committed to reigniting the American dream across the nation, especially here in New Jersey. We look forward to all we will accomplish working alongside Jersey 1st in this fight for freedom.”

“Jersey 1st and Americans for Prosperity share the common goal of advocating for the best interests of New Jersey taxpayers, businesses, and families,” added Jersey 1st President and Founder Rosemary Becchi. “For far too long, Garden State politicians have been crushing taxpayers with higher taxes, increased regulations, and wasteful spending. Jersey 1st and AFP will work together to speak out against these unaffordable policies and promote common-sense reforms to make New Jersey a state where families and businesses can grow and thrive.”

Jersey 1st was founded in 2018 by Becchi, a practicing tax attorney and ex-congressional candidate.

AFP remains a powerful national right-of-center organization, but the Koch Brother-backed operation’s New Jersey chapter – once well-known for ex-leader Steve Lonegan’s “taxpayer minute” segments and influential among the GOP legislative caucus – atrophied following the departure of Erica Jedynak and has been dormant for a few years.
