While the political universe was focused on a Delaware courtroom, Congressman Jeff Van Drew (R, NJ-02) on Wednesday called for the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas during a House Judiciary Committee hearing.
Van Drew focused on the ongoing drug trafficking, human trafficking, and general chaos at America’s southern border with Mexico.
“Our southern border has been turned into a revolving door for illegal immigration, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and threatens our national security with each passing day,” Van Drew told Mayorkas, adding bluntly “[y]ou should be impeached.”

“Our approach to managing the border securely and humanely, even within our fundamentally broken immigration system is working,” Mayorkas claimed. “Unlawful entries between ports of entry along the southwest border have consistently decreased by more than half compared to the peak before the end of Title 42.”
In reality, it’s been estimated that the southern border alone has seen 5 million crossings since Joe Biden took office back in January 2021.
