New Jersey Republicans’ bad 2023 cycle may be getting worse in Burlington County.
Democrat Andrea Katz is now narrowly leading freshman millennial Assemblyman Brandon Umba (R-Medford) in LD8 by the narrowest of margins: 27 votes (27,037 to 27,010).
New Jersey’s goofy vote-by-mail laws mean that there’s still hundreds of total vote by mail and provisional ballots still outstanding which means it could be days – or even long if there’s a recount – before we know the final result.
Umba’s running mate Assemblyman Michael Torrissi (R-Hammonton) is still in first with 27,502 vote.
Democrat challenger Anthony Angelozzi is in fourth with 26,849.
Republican Senator-elect Latham Tiver (R-Southampton) seems to be holding strong against ex-Pemberton Township Councilwoman Gaye Burton (28,013 to 26,648).
Republicans have already lost 5 seats this cycle – two in LD11, two in LD3, and one in LD30. The GOP went into this cycle with 34 seats but could now dip to 28 if Umba loses.
