POLL: Tammy Murphy trails Andy Kim by double-digits in race to replace Menendez

Tammy Murphy may not be “inevitable” after all, Save Jerseyans.

Results from the first public poll of the 2024 U.S. Senate Democrat primary dropped on Friday, and Phil Murphy’s wife can only rely on 20% of likely primary voters. Congressman Andy Kim (D, NJ-03) led the field with 32%, a 12-point advantage notwithstanding the first lady’s overwhelming early advantage with establishment Democrat support and superior name recognition. The incumbent Bob Menendez, who is busy battling his second lifetime federal prosecution, is barely registering with 9% of the likely voter pool.

Ironically, Kim – who is a Korean American – appears to be winning the poll in part because of his massive advantage with (47% to 15%) over Murphy who might as well be queen of the white liberals.

“The real fight here is between white liberals, who are largely backing Kim, and more moderate Black and Hispanic voters, who are lining up behind Murphy,” said Dan Cassino, the FDU poll’s director. “Kim has always run as a centrist candidate, but these liberal voters dislike the county organizations enough that they’ve adopted him as one of their own.”

That “centrist” part is obviously nonsense, but keep in mind that this is a university poll and we all know who occupies college campuses. As for the numbers themselves? FDU doesn’t have the greatest reputation for accuracy, but you can be damn sure that the current first lady only pulling 1 in 5 likely voters is enough to set off alarm bells in Murphy World heading into the weekend…
