His political rivals Jack Ciattarelli and Jon Bramnick were in Atlantic City for the annual NJGOP “summit” this weekend, but NJ 101.5 host Bill Spadea – who’s believed to be building as 2025 gubernatorial campaign – posted a video from the U.S.-Mexican Border on Saturday morning.
“I’m here at the southern border in Texas witnessing the illegal immigration crisis firsthand,” Spadea posted on the X platform. “It’s time for politicians in America, and New Jersey, to wake up. Let’s secure the border, end the sanctuary state for illegals, and put America first again.”
Immigration is traditionally a federal issue, but Phil Murphy’s first term “Sanctuary State” declaration is more controversial than ever in light of the ongoing chaos in the Southwest and a resulting illegal immigrant crimewave across the country. Polling consistently shows immigration emerging as a major issue, or even the #1 issue, for Republican and persuadable voters in 2024. It’s more than likely that the issue will play some role in next year’s primary and general elections.
