Milley admits to Smith: Biden Administration doesn’t know how many Americans abandoned in Afghanistan

It’s the same of a nation.

On Tuesday, retired General Mark Milley testified before the House Foreign Affairs Committee and admitted that the Biden Administration doesn’t know how many Americans were abandoned when the United States pulled out of Afghanistan in August 2021.

“I’ll be candid,” Milley told the committee in response to a question from Rep. Chris Smith (R, NJ-04). “I don’t know the exact number of Americans that were left behind because the starting number was never clear. Same is true of at-risk Afghans; those numbers varied so widely that they were quite inaccurate, as best I could tell at the time. I would just say, I am not sure, even today, about the accuracy of all those numbers.”

Milley also told Smith that some Afghan allies were executed in “brutal ways.”

“I think some were killed,” Milley conceded under questioning. “I think some of the Afghans were tracked down that worked with us, and I think some of them were killed in; I’m pretty certain, some of them in pretty brutal ways. Some managed to escape through various means, others have just laid low and are keeping their heads down.”

In a separate interview, Smith expressed outrage over the Biden Administration’s attitude towards the situation.

“It’s like, ‘Close that page. They don’t exist,’” Smith explained. “There is a cruelty embedded in all of this. They don’t care, it’s hurting me politically.”
