N.J. Senate candidate blames earthquake on “climate crisis”

It’s a religion, guys. Totally detached from fact!

Exhibit A: following today’s East Coast earthquake, an obscure Green Party candidate running for U.S. Senate in New Jersey took to X (formerly Twitter) and blamed the “climate crisis” for Friday’s magnitude 4.8 quake.

“I experienced my first earthquake in NJ. We never get earthquakes,” tweeted Khalil. “The climate crisis is real. The weirdest experience ever.”

Let’s be clear: there is NO link between earthquakes and the climate.

“Earthquakes occur when the plates that make up the Earth’s crust move around. These plates, called tectonic plates, can push against each other,” CBS News explained in its post-quake write-up. “Earthquakes are most common along fault lines, which are fractures that allow the plates to move.”

The Ramapo Fault System extends from Pennsylvania to the southeastern region of New York.

Ms. Khalil definitely got some social media traffic out of today’s post, but it’s probably not getting the reaction she’ll need to “shake up” the race and be relevant in November.
