Ed the Trucker confirms he’s running for governor, throws monkey wrench into GOP primary

The 2025 GOP gubernatorial primary remains far from settled about one year out, Save Jerseyans, and that’s more true than ever after Ed “The Trucker” Durr’s apparent decision to enter the contest.

A truck driver by trade, Durr enjoyed 15 minutes of fame after upsetting then-New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney in November 2021. Two years later, Durr was unable to parlay his appearances on Tucker Carlson and popularity with the base into fundraising success and decisively lost his bid for reelection in LD3 to Sweeney’s former Assembly running mate.

He also faced a withering result from the South Jersey Democrat Machine and dark money groups which prosecuted Durr over years-old tweets which the Sweeney campaign had curiously ignored in 2021.

Durr confirmed his intention to enter the 2025 race to Save Jersey and expressed optimism as to his ability to marshall the necessary reasources to mount a statewide effort.

“I think I can; I guess we will find out soon enough,” quipped Durr.

Durr’s imminent entry into the race was first reported by The New Jersey Globe. 2021 nominee Jack Ciattarelli and LD21 State Senator Jon Bramnick are already in the race. NJ 101.5 morning host Bill Spadea is expected to enter the race later this year, though he may have the most to lose from Durr’s entry into the race since Spadea and the trucker arguably occupy the same populist conservative lane (bad pun intended). Conversely, Bramnick may compete with Ciattarelli for GOP establishment support setting up a primary battle where the ultimate winner could potentially secure the nomination with less than 40% of the statewide vote total.
