The concept is uncontroversial, Save Jerseyans, at a time in our country’s political history when few things are uncontroversial. According to the bill statement for A177, Asw. Dawn Fantasia’s proposal “would require public and nonpublic schools to ensure that at least one portable anti-choking device is made available in the cafeteria, school nurse’s office, and any other similar location.”
School shootings receive the media attention (for obvious reasons), but your child is far more likely to die from choking than a gun fire in the classroom. Google “school choking” and you’ll see plenty of examples.
But Dawn’s bill was referred to the Assembly Education Committee back in January where it continues to sit with no hint of action on the horizon.
