Van Drew rails against Atlantic City Electric, questions what utility is “hiding”

Congressman Jeff Van Drew (R, NJ-02) is in a war with Atlantic City Electric (ACE) over recent sizable increases to his South Jersey constituents’ electric bills.

The congressman says ACE refused to participate in an October 8th public hearing on the matter. He’s also called for a federal investigation. Some ACE customers have reported increases of as much as 400%.

“Everything they want to say to us in a closed-door meeting can be said to the public—so what are they hiding?” said Van Drew. “I have been more than willing to meet with Exelon and ACE, which is why they were invited to testify at the hearing, yet they declined. Despite my office sending multiple letters and engaging in ongoing communication with their office, they have offered no meaningful solutions or explanations. We have given them every opportunity to be transparent with the public, but they continue to avoid accountability. It is time for them to answer directly to the people whose bills are skyrocketing. No more excuses—we demand real answers.”

Meanwhile, elected officials have also pointed a finger directly at the Murphy Administration and the impact that it’s controversial “Energy Master Plan” to make the state’s energy sector carbon neutral has had on prices for ratepayers.

“Everything comes with a price – windmills and gas appliance bans and electric car mandates and nuclear power plant closures and natural gas pipeline proposals being shuttered, and on and on and on,” Assemblyman Mike Torrissi (R-8) wrote in a recent Save Jersey op-ed. “These are the policies being enacted in New Jersey for the last seven years. The cost of them is astronomical.”
