Well, that didn’t take long.
This week, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (D, NJ-11) decided to skip the floor vote for the 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act (H.R. 8371) to favor of joining the drunken swamp creatures at the booze-fueled lobbyist-fest called the New Jersey League of Municipalities Conference in Atlantic City.
Sherrill, who flew helicopters for the Navy, announced a run for governor earlier this week. The federal legislation (which she didn’t bother to vote on) addresses various aspects of support for military veterans including transitional housing and other aid for homeless veterans.
“Starting a statewide campaign by turning your back on veterans is disgraceful,” said Assemblyman Brian Bergen (R-26), a fellow veteran. “If you’re going to tout your military service, you’d better back it up by standing up for those who served. Skipping critical votes on veterans’ health care to rub elbows with lobbyists is blatant hypocrisy, and New Jersey’s veterans deserve better.”
Sherrill’s rocky first week already featured a second embarrassment: lying about her grandfather flying a B-52 bomber in World War II on X despite the fact that the B-52 hadn’t yet been invented.
Bergen said the episodes don’t speak well of Sherrill’s character.
“Using your military background as a campaign prop while ignoring veterans when it matters most shows exactly where her priorities lie – with political insiders, not the brave men and women who served our country,” added Bergen. “New Jersey’s veterans deserve leaders who fight for them, not politicians who exploit their service for votes and then fail to show up when it counts. Our heroes deserve better, and voters should hold her accountable.”
