Republicans made the most of inauguration month in New Jersey, closing their statewide registration gap with Democrats by nearly 13,000 voters last month:
Republicans: +10,480
Democrats: – 2,433
The total net swing towards the GOP was 12,913 for January 2025, a relatively large single-month gain and part of a sustained trend in the Garden State beginning with the start of the Biden Administration and continuing through the present.
There were corresponding GOP gains at the legislative district level, too. In battleground LD3 (a sprawling, South Jersey district carried by President Trump which has changed hands twice in recent years at the legislative level), the GOP gained 566 registrants to the Democrats’ 99.
In Passaic County – a traditionally blue county which President Trump flipped last year – Democrats lost a net of 67 registrants while Republicans gained 508.
All 80 Assembly seats and the governorship are on the ballot this November. Republicans have high hopes after President Trump came within under 6 points of flipping the state last fall, the closest any Republican has come since 1992.
The main Republican candidates for their party’s nomination will meet for their first debate this Tuesday evening at Rider University.
