State Senator Latham Tiver (R-8) and Assemblyman Michael Torrissi (R–8) are trying to protect New Jerseyans’ gas ranges (among other things) from Trenton’s green energy crazies. The “Affordable Home Energy Protection Act” (S4610) and “Vehicle Choice Protection Act” (S4611) are a direct response to Governor Phil Murphy’s not-yet-released “Energy Master Plan” which aims to ban fossil fuels in the coming years.
“Electric prices are skyrocketing, increasing 20 percent a year throughout the state, while the Democrats are racing towards an all-electric future that would increase demand and crunch supply even further. If they’re not stopped, New Jersey residents will be faced with a reality where electric prices make it impossible to cool a house and afford a car at the same time,” said Senator Tiver of Burlington County.
S4610 would prevent New Jersey governments (state and local) from restricting prohibits adoption of State or local restrictions or mandates pertaining to appliances or heating systems reliant upon fossil-fuel.
S4611 would prevent the state from banning internal combustion vehicles.
“My legislation with Senator Tiver is a check on unfettered power by the Governor, who has pushed through electric mandates without legislative or voter consent. Banning gas appliances, heating systems, and cars is anti-consumer, anti-affordability, and anti-freedom. In no world should a politician tell an American they can’t cook their food on a gas-powered stove. We need common sense back to Trenton,” added Assemblyman Torrissi.
The bills stand little chance of passage in the currently-constituted Democrat-controlled legislature, but Tiver and Torrissi undoubtedly hope to help frame the narrative moving forward with the governorship and all eighty Assembly seats on the ballot this November. Torrissi’s LD8 is one of the state’s only genuine battleground legislative districts and the last one (at present) with split Assembly representation.
