Randolph Mayor Joe Hathaway is running for Congress next year in NJ-11.
He’ll face incumbent Democrat Mikie Sherrill assuming he wins the Republican primary (and Sherrill loses her current gubernatorial race). Consequently, Hathaway’s opening salvo was unapologetically 2025-themed.
“As the son of an Army veteran, I was raised to believe that honor and integrity matter, especially when serving your country,” said Hathaway. “Mikie Sherrill has refused to come clean about her role in one of the biggest cheating scandals in military history, and voters deserve answers. Mikie has built her whole identity around the naval honor code, which she knowingly violated. After Jack Ciattarelli wins the governorship, and Mikie comes back to the district, I’ll be here to continue to hold her accountable.”
Hathaway also critiqued Sherrill’s voting record or lack thereof.
“Rep. Sherrill missed 152 out of 282 roll call votes in 2025 while campaigning for governor. That’s more than half the votes she was elected to cast on behalf of her constituents,” Hathaway continued. “As a mayor, if I skipped half my meetings, I’d be held accountable, and rightfully so. If Mikie truly believes members of Congress shouldn’t get paid when they aren’t doing their jobs, then she should return half of her taxpayer-funded salary immediately.”
A veteran of the corporate communications industry, Hathaway currently serves as the Group Director for Corporate Strategy at Real Chemistry.
The 11th Congressional District is rated D+5 on the Cook Partisan Voting Index. Sherrill was relected in 2024 by a double-digit margin to the seat which she’s held since 2018.
