What is the human price of politics?
October Nor’easters are nothing new at the Jersey Shore, Save Jerseyans, but the ongoing Schumer Shutdown is causing unique complications for property owners.
As insurance companies receive large numbers of claims following weekend rain and near Sandy-level flooding in some areas, some residents are finding out – if they didn’t know already – that the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) ran out of funding effective September 30th. The NFIP covers almost 5 million policyholders across thousands of U.S. municipalities – that’s $1.3 million in flood insurance cash that’s currently unavailable.
The end result: possible major difficulties for Jersey Shore property owners whose basic homeowner’s policies usually don’t cover flood damage.
This latest federal government shutdown is presently entering its third week; the current record is 35 days.
Why is it happening? Midterm politics. Senate Democrats are currently holding up a “clean” funding extension over free healthcare for illegal aliens, a move motivated by the Democrats’ increasingly radical base and backed by most House Democrats including Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, the Democrat nominee for New Jersey governor who’s locked in a close race with Republican Jack Ciattarelli.
