LIST: New Jersey is America’s 2nd worst state for tax competitiveness

TRENTON, N.J. – New Jersey continues to cling to its distinction as one of America’s most overtaxed states.

The Tax Foundation is out with its latest 2026 list ranking each U.S. state and the District of Columbia by tax competitiveness. New Jersey landed second-to-last, “better” only than neighboring New York.
