It’s sad for more than one reason to see Europe surrender its future to murderous, Islamist barbarians, Save Jerseyans.
30 years ago? Today?
Ronald Reagan visited West Berlin and, standing in front of the infamous Berlin Wall, declared “There is one sign the Soviets can make that would be unmistakable, that would advance dramatically the cause of freedom and peace.”
What he said next is the stuff of legend:
Secretary General Gorbachev, if you seek peace–if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe–if you seek liberalization: come here, to this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.”
I still get shivers, folks! Every single time. It was America’s Cold War version of “[a]nd Rohan will answer!” Sure enough, the Wall came tumblin’ down in the very early days of Reagan’s successor’s term.
Where is THIS strength and clarity of purpose evident in today’s political class?
Or is it a fading memory? Much like the Berlin Wall?
