“Breaking news: Chris Christie is no longer governor.”

TRENTON, N.J. โ€“ There are five days left to go before New Jersey government shuts down without a budget. Any compromise is likely to mean massive spending and tax increases.

On Monday, Assembly GOP Leader Jon Bramnick, Conference Leader Anthony M. Bucco and Budget Officer John DiMaio offered their two cents on the Democrats’ civil war over tax hikes; Governor Phil Murphy continues to support income tax hikes while his party’s legislative alternative, passed last week, focuses on massive business tax increases.

Bramnick specifically addressed continued Democrat attempts to deflect blame to the prior administration.

“Breaking news: Chris Christie is no longer governor,” said Bramnick, a close ally of the former Republican governor.

All three men said affordability — not new spending — should be the focus of the new budget.
