EVESHAM, NJ — The long-time mayor of one of New Jersey’s larger Republican-controlled towns is dropping his bid for reelection.
“Mayor Brown recently informed me that he will not be seeking re-election this year and submitted his paperwork to take himself off the ballot and out of the year’s election,” said Evesham GOP Municipal Chair Ed Waters in a Tuesday evening e-mail blast to county committee members. “I appreciate all the time and years of service he gave to our township and wish him well on all future endeavors.”
A kicking consultant for the Baltimore Ravens, Randy Brown has served as mayor of the township since 2007. The town, which is a swing jurisdiction in state and national contests, is considered a key battleground in the Burlington County GOP’s tough battle to maintain control of county government this fall. The Freeholder Board is currently 3-2 Republican.
Democrats are running challenger Jaclyn Veasy for mayor.
Republicans will consider his replacement at a pre-planned Wednesday meeting.
