Donald Trump sent the room into a frenzy and raised more than a few eyebrows on Wednesday night when he touted Congressman Jeff Van Drew (R, NJ-02) as a possible 2024 vice presidential nominee.
According to a source in the room, Trump referred to a Trump-Van Drew ticket as “a really good idea” to raucous applause.
The event – held one day after an FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago – was a previously planned fundraising dinner for the South Jersey congressman who famously switched parties in December 2019 over his objection to the Democrats’ obsession with impeaching Trump. The GOP president repaid the favor by holding a rare presidential rally in Wildwood in early 2020, and the pair have remained politically loyal to one another ever since.
