The allegations facing Bob Menendez continue to develop and grow more disturbing by the minute, Save Jerseyans.

On Monday, State Senator Michael Testa Jr. demanded a legislative special session to investigate the N.J. Attorney General Office’s 2019 prosecution of businessman linked to Menendez.

The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York says Menendez reached out to then-N.J. Attorney General Gurbir Grewal in January 2019. Menendez’s alleged aim was to intervene favorably in the prosecution of Joe Uribe, his co-defendant in the federal indictment unsealed last week.

Menendez’s alleged fee: the $60,000 Mercedes convertible widely reported by the media.

Grewal, who has since moved on to the SEC, “considered Robert Menendez’s actions inappropriate and did not agree to intervene” per the indictment. However, the defendant ultimately avoided jail time despite entering a guilty plea.

“When you have allegations of elected officials pressuring our State attorney general’s office to influence the outcome of a prosecution, the State must demand answers. We cannot ignore the alleged corruption and influence peddling that occurred within our State offices,” said Testa , a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. “The Legislature must return to Trenton immediately and give the Senate Judiciary Committee the power and resources to demand answers from the attorney general’s office regarding this serious and egregious matter.”

Menendez also allegedly attempted to influence the appointment of New Jersey’s U.S. Attorney in support of his patrons.
