Anti-Israel activism on display at the Monmouth Democrat Convention

There was a time not all too long ago when support for Israel – or at least its right to exist – was an uncontroversial concept among the American political class. That time, of course, has long since passed as the Democrat Party has taken a hard, woke Leftward turn in recent years. Remember when the DNC booed Israel (and God) at the 2012 convention in North Carolina? It was a sign of things to come. A March 2023 Gallup poll found Democrats sympathizing with Palestinians more than Israelis for the first time ever in their surveys.

Now Democrats are splitting – and in danger of fracturing – over Israel and “Palestine.” Antisemites have crashed Biden events, and our weak president has less-than artfully attempted to thread the needle by putting pressure on Israel to restrain how it defends itself after last October’s historic terror attacks perpetrated by Hamas.

A November 2023 post-attack poll found Democrats under 35 supporting Palestinians over Israelis by a massive 3-to-1 margin.

But you don’t need to look to the national scene for evidence of the problem.

This weekend’s Monmouth County Democrat Convention made a few headlines because Andy Kim upset Tammy Murphy for the U.S. Senate endorsement. But the convention was also notable for the presence of “Pro-Palestine” protesters (see the photo above), a fact which was celebrated on social media by Bradley Beach Borough Council President John Weber.

“This is what democracy looks like,” Weber posted on Facebook. “Hundreds waiting online for the Monmouth County Convention to vote for their preferred candidate. Not pictures. Pro Palestine protesters were good and loud.”

It’s not hard to understand why this is happening.

The modern Democrat Party perpetuates the ideology of victimization, and many (mostly) younger Democrats have sloppily applied the same ideas in circulation during the BLM protests to craft a moral argument for Palestinian terrorists who slaughter children, rape women, and wage death in their quest to rid the world of the Jewish people. There’s not parallel between the domestic and international situations, of course, but when your ideology is emotional instead of logical, there’s no telling how it will lead the empty-headed astray. Even in Monmouth County, New Jersey!
