
The so-called “Protection Against Climate Threats Resilient Environments and Landscape Rule,” shorttened to the “Pact Real” Rule, will upend development in New Jersey and drive insurance rates through the roof. Much of the Jersey Shore will become unbuildable all in the name of fighting sea rise based on highly speculative projections over the coming century.
Netflix, however, is off the hook unlike you, me, and everyone else according to the NJ Monitor:
“The streaming giant won an enormous favor from Gov. Phil Murphy’s administration this month when a revised set of new and controversial flood rules included a Netflix exemption. The new rules will not apply to its new film studio in Monmouth County.
The studio, located on the old Fort Monmouth property, will span nearly 300 acres, include 12 soundstages, and cost $1 billion. Homeowners and businesses looking to build around Fort Monmouth and other flood-prone areas will have to protect against future sea-level rise by elevating four feet, but that apparently would be too darn difficult for Netflix.”

Not that any of this is a surprise. Democrats have become the party of corporate welfare, and Netflix employees’ political donations went > 99% to Democrat candidates and political action committees in the 2024 cycle including the campaign of Cory Booker. Democrat-run state governments have every incentive to return the favor in order to keep the gravy train rolling…
